The long-lost mystery-crime soap opera, The Edge of Night served as a launching pad for many actors who would go on to achieve success in Hollywood. While some, like John Travolta, had fleeting roles—his appearance as an unnamed messenger was barely a blip—others leveraged their early TV work into lasting careers on the big screen. Among them, my personal favorite ex-Edger to find success in film is Scott Glenn. In 1969, Glenn portrayed Calvin Brenner, a bad boy in cahoots with Nurse Lydia Holliday. The two schemed to rob the Capice family while patriarch Phil Capice lay helpless, conscious yet unable to speak—a silent witness to their deception. Despite Calvin’s criminal intent, his softer moments with Sara-Louise Capice added depth to the character, revealing his desires and capacity for tenderness. Though debate exists over whether Glenn is the most successful Edge of Night alum to make it in Hollywood, his achievements are undeniable. His career spans decades, transitioning from television to notable film roles in Nashville, The Hunt for Red October, The Silence of the Lambs, and Training Day, among others. He cultivated a reputation as a distinguished character actor, frequently playing figures of authority or morally complex characters. Scott Glenn’s Path to Success
In conclusion, while The Edge of Night introduced many actors to the industry, Scott Glenn's success stands out. His evolution from daytime television to Hollywood heavyweight is a testament to his skill, presence, and dedication.
