Whiskey River, located on North Division Street in Peekskill, is an excellent place to relax. Founded during the pandemic, it welcomes patrons every day of the week. Thursdays stand out due to a particular bartender's presence.
The bar exudes a distinctive atmosphere, somewhere between a local tavern and a dive bar. It attracts visitors from across the Hudson Valley and sometimes from the City. The beverages are outstanding, and if you meet a certain Irish man's standards of conduct, you might just have your name inscribed on the back wall. Please don't take offense at his frequent use of expletives; they are a common feature in his speech. Last year, he dressed up as a monstrous Pebbles Flintstone and Bam-Bam Rubble, complete with painted red lipstick and messy hair tied in a ponytail. The attire resembled a brown, sleeveless caveman's sack. I can't remember if he was barefoot, which would have been appropriate. He glared at me, challenging me not to take his photograph because it was that horrible. "I will kick your f....g ass," he said and he would, so I begrudgingly complied. I'm curious, without any loss of sleep, what will this year's costume be? Halloween is an especially great time to visit. The festive decorations never fail to entertain, and the comfort food is top-notch.

Occasionally, it's acceptable to stick to a salad and a glass of white wine to maintain one's figure. Consider your cravings, then reflect on your appearance in the mirror and decide accordingly. Each visit to Whiskey River is an adventure, bringing tales that range from delightful to wildly amusing. The allure and drama are constants there. Consider the Bloody Mary, for example. I've acquired a taste for this particular cocktail during Sunday brunch, a habit that started in San Francisco and seems poised to persist even in the absence of the Castro Street crowd. Why not carry over the Bloody Mary tradition after a gloomy, rainy downpour on Monday to a sunny Tuesday? The brunch at Whiskey's is consistently outstanding, and the performers always manage to entertain, whether you're enjoying your meal alone or delving into a complex William Faulkner novel. Whiskey River is suddenly the culinary adventurer's delight, where the salmon leap onto my plate, pilaf is fluffy, and veggies reach peak sweetness. It's a place where carrots dream of being served and the bartender is a doppelganger of a Hollywood celebrity Paul Newman, recommending a white wine that dances on the palate. Here, every lunch is a scene from a feel-good movie, and the only thing better than the food is the company and the inevitable good times. Cheers again to Whiskey River, where the river of comfort food and fine wine, beer and whiskey never runs dry. Whiskey River, the unofficial therapist for the soul, is a magical place where the only thing contagious is laughter and the only prescription needed is a good time with the boys. It's where the stories are as tall as the drinks and the only thing on the rocks should be your beverage, not your spirits. So here's to the nights that turn into mornings and the friends that turn into family!
Cheers to living it up with the crew where the only thing you catch is good vibes! Calm down and welcome to the best place in Peekskill and perhaps the whole wide world. Whiskey River welcomes everyone with open arms and sometimes, if OK by the bar Leprechaun, a little kiss. |
