Via Amtrak Fayetteville, NC, resembles most Southern cities with a less dense low-rise skyline of old brick buildings, lots of car traffic, tall trees, and very few people in the city center. The Amtrak station platform is about the busiest place I noticed in Fayetteville that did not include automobiles. With a population in 2020 of 529,252 people (280,000 in the city limits), the Fayetteville metropolitan area is the largest in southeastern North Carolina and the fifth largest in the state.
