A walk from West 20th Street in Chelsea to Allen Street (where I've never been before) in Lower Manhattan seemed shorter on the map than the actual walk that is much longer and, at times, confusing because of so many twisting streets like mazes and tempting squares and parks through New York neighborhoods completely different from each other that it’s easy to forget which way is south or north esp. in massive Chinatown when stuck between so many people, buildings and non-stop traffic. It would probably have been easier and quicker to take the #1 Subway as one person suggested I take when I finally had to ask out desperation, but underground I would have missed seeing so much.
